Walking to Photograph the Invisible was a sensory photographic exhibition of the artist Cristianne Melo developed through walks in Porto’s historic center. Instead of focusing on visual composition, the project explores how the body perceives the city through rhythm, sound, atmosphere, and movement.
Using an analog compact camera without looking through the viewfinder, the images are intentionally unplanned and detached from conventional ways of seeing. The photographs do not aim to represent the city visually, but to evoke what is felt beyond sight.
In the exhibition, the images are further transformed through interventions such as stains, scratches, and experimental formats, creating a tension between the visible and the invisible.
Sound also plays a central role: each photograph is accompanied by an audio recording of the moment it was taken, expanding the experience beyond vision and inviting a more inclusive, multisensory engagement.
